Superheroes and Liars

YA Urban Fantasy Mystery

When super-humans reach age sixteen, they have two options: become a superhero or descend into darkness as a supervillain.

Fifteen-year-old Alexandra is a fire that won’t burn out. After many failed attempts to control her temper, she’s a few strikes away from becoming one of the evil creatures who took her mom’s life: a supervillain. When she receives a message from the superhuman mission coordinator saying her first solo mission is coming up, she’s determined to nail it, finally earn her father’s approval, and become the superhero she believes she’s destined to be. But when the mission goes awry, she loses her cool, and her cousin Sharla is murdered trying to save her.

Driven by guilt in the aftermath of the tragedy, Alexandra is set on finding the culprit to get justice and guarantee her fate as a superhero. Her biggest obstacle is the culprit's anonymous messages which threaten that continuing her investigation will land her in superhuman jail or a body bag.

As the mystery starts to unravel, Alexandra and her friends discover the super-human authorities may be hiding secrets revolving around the teenage transformation into super-hood—secrets the killer will stop at nothing to hide. She has a month to uncover them before the superhuman ruler deems her a villain forever—if the killer doesn’t put an end to her first.

But life as a villain might be a worse outcome than death.

YA Urban Fantasy Mystery
(Drafting)

Sixteen-year-old mermaid Lex has two words for the people trying to hunt her down—bite me.

Lex didn't expect to end junior year by becoming a mermaid. For most teenage girls, this would be a dream come true. But for Lex, it's quite the opposite. There's a group dedicated to hunting down mermaids, who is set on using the creatures as their next science experiments. On top of that, Lex's boyfriend, Jon, has a mermaid obsession, and insists one saved him and his friends from drowning. To her dismay, he refuses to stop searching until he finds the mermaid who saved him.

After a boat accident, Lex ends up severely injured. In order to earn money for her medical bills, Jon and his friends join the mermaid hunting group. To prevent suspicion, Lex and her mermaid friends decide to join too. But when the boys start capturing other mermaids, the girls discover they're in grave danger. It doesn't seem like Jon and his friends want to repay the mermaid's favor. They appear to have other intentions, and Lex and her friends must find a way out before they become the group's next victims.
